The Butte College speech and debate team competed in the National Online Forensics League's first quarter final on Saturday, Oct. 15. The team brought home seven medals and placed second overall in the College Division behind UC, San Diego.
In their first tournament of the season, Madison Gillen won first place in persuasive speaking, while Millie Kinnamont earned first place in informative speaking. First-time competitor Marisol Romero brought home silver in persuasive speaking, and Curtis Bell came in third, tying with returning competitors Jose Sanchez-Martinez. Shawn Brannan, a returning competitor, took second place in Informative Speaking.
The team's next competition is the "Pacific Meets the Delta Swing" at the University of the Pacific on Nov. 4.
