The Butte College Art Gallery hosted an artist's reception in celebration of visiting artist David Smallhouse on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 2 p.m. Smallhouse's current exhibit, "Amorphous: A Career in Art Glass," has been on display at Butte College since Aug. 22 and will come to a close on Thursday, Sept. 29.

Smallhouse, a Vietnam veteran and Chico resident, led a career as a glass artist for more than four decades. He has been firmly rooted in the local community, having worked at Orient and Flume for twenty years and in his studio, Smallhouse Art Glass, for another twenty. Smallhouse stated that the routine of creating objects by hand was an integral part of his healing process following his service.

The artist's daughter and Butte College art history instructor Sarah Smallhouse curated the retrospective of Smallhouse's decades-long career. "My father is the reason why I have always loved the arts as a historian and curator," said Smallhouse.

The Butte College Art Gallery is a student-supported gallery located on the first floor of the art building at Butte College's main campus. The gallery is open to the public Monday – Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
