Butte College Unveiled the New Kinesiology and Athletics Performance Center

New Building

Butte College unveiled the new Kinesiology and Athletic Performance Center building on Saturday, November 16, at noon at 3536 Butte Campus Drive, adjacent to the football field. The budget for the 19,138-square foot building was $10.5 million and is funded through Measure J, a $190 million bond measure approved by voters in November 2016.

The new Kinesiology and Athletic Performance Center significantly expands the Kinesiology and Athletics program. Butte College’s kinesiology students, student-athletes, along with trustees, faculty, staff and community members will be on hand.

“This new performance center replaces the fieldhouse trailer which originally came from our Durham campus in 1968. It offers additional teaching space and establishes a dedicated performance center for our student athletes,” said Samia Yaqub, Butte College president. “We thank the voters who made this possible when they approved our bond measure in 2016.”

The facility includes three classrooms, a 5,660 square feet strength and conditioning area for student-athletes, restrooms, faculty offices, and concession facilities. This project also includes the replacement of the stadium press box and stadium scoreboard. The construction contract was awarded to United Building Contractors of Chico, who partnered with Rainforth Grau Architects from Auburn and will be utilizing 94 percent local subcontractors for the project.
